Sophomore Brendan Lipovsky of Fairfield, Neb., and freshman Wali Parks of Iowa City scored 16 points apiece as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team dropped a 97-89 decision to Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) March 1 at Estherville.
The loss closed out the regular season for the Bears, who finished at 15-15 overall and 4-8 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Sophomore Nibra White of Evanston, Ill., scored 15 points for the Bears, freshman Antowine Locke of Chicago, Ill., had 14 points and freshman Nysir Marshburn of Philadelphia, Penn., added 10 points.
ILCC led 39-36 at halftime and maintained its advantage in the second half to come away with the win. DMACC shot 41 percent in the loss, making 26 of 63 field goal attempts, including 9-of-28 from the three-point range. The Bears were 28-of-36 from the free throw line.
ILCC came away with a 37-28 advantage on the boards with Locke's six rebounds leading DMACC. He also led the Bears in assists with five.
The DMACC men's basketball team will be the No. 5 seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Division II Men's Basketball Tournament. The Bears are expected to face Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in the quarterfinals March 7 at Iowa Falls. ECC swept both games against the Bears during the regular season.
