DMACC’S CHRIS WITZKE NAMED ICCAC BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball player Chris Witzke the ICCAC Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 1 to 7.

 

Witzke, a freshman from Humboldt, pitched the Bears to victories against 19th-ranked Southeastern Community College (SECC) and Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) during the week. He allowed three hits, struck out nine and walked two over seven innings in the Bears' 7-0 win over SECC on May 2, improving to 3-1 with the win. On May 7, Witzke threw three innings against DCTC, allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks as the Bears came away with a 16-5 victory.

 

For the season, Witzke has appeared in 10 games, including nine starts, and is 3-1 with a 4.62 earned run average. He has pitched 25 and a third innings, allowing 16 runs on 24 hits with 18 strikeouts and 12 walks. He is averaging 6.39 strikeouts per nine innings and 13 of the 16 runs he has allowed are earned.

 

Witzke has also played a key role in DMACC's offensive attack with a .333 batting average. He has 31 hits in 93 at-bats including six doubles, a triple and a home run. Witzke has scored 21 runs and driven in 20 runs.

 

Witzke and the Bears begin National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI play May 11 against Kirkwood Community College (KCC). The double-elimination tournament continues through May 14 when the championship game is scheduled to be played.
