The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team slipped to 12-13 overall and 3-5 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after dropping a doubleheader to North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) April 5 at the DMACC baseball diamond.

NIACC defeated the Bears by scores of 5-2 and 13-5.

DMACC was limited to just four hits in losing the opener behind NIACC's four-run rally in the first inning. Sophomore Matt Krambeck of Omaha, Neb., led the Bears with two hits, including a solo home run, and freshmen Austin Murr of Denmark Township, Minn., and Calen Schwabe of Thompson, N.D., had one hit apiece.

Freshman Jakob Richardson of Cave Creek, Ariz., pitched the first inning for DMACC and saw his record fall to 2-1 with the loss. He allowed four runs on three hits, struck out two and walked four. Freshman Carlos Eusebio of Coral Springs, Fla., pitched three innings, allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts and a walk and freshman Nate Holliday of Muscatine worked two innings, striking out four batters, walking one and giving up one hit.

NIACC used another four-run rally, this one in the third inning, to take control of the second game. DMACC made it a 4-1 game with a run in the fourth, but NIACC answered with two in the fifth and one in the sixth to open up a 7-1 lead. DMACC tallied two runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings, but NIACC countered with three in its half of the seventh and eighth innings to come away with the win via the mercy rule.

Murr and freshmen Austin Weiler of Olatha, Kan., each homered to pace DMACC at the plate. Murr had two hits and three RBIs and Weiler came away with three hits and an RBI. Schwabe also had a pair of hits in the game.

Freshman Spencer Hanson of West Des Moines worked the first four innings for the Bears, allowing six runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked three in suffering his first loss of the season against four victories. Holliday threw two innings, allowing three runs on one hit with one strikeout and sophomore Luke Longmuir of Cottage Grove, Minn., walked one batter and gave up two runs on one hit in a third of an inning.  Freshman Janier Puente of Perry allowed one run on one hit, but was not credited with any innings pitched.

The DMACC baseball team will complete their four game series with NIACC with a doubleheader wit the Trojans. First pitch is slated for 2:00 pm at the DMACC Baseball Field.
