The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Ty Thomson the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Baseball (pitching) for the week of March 31 to April 6.
Thomson, a sophomore from Council Bluffs, is being honored by the conference for the first time this season and he is one of four members of the DMACC baseball team to be honored this season. Freshman Archer Ogbourne of Carlisle was honored for his hitting the week of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2 and freshman Konner Entz of West Fargo, N.D., and sophomore Jaqson Tejada of Marion were honored for their pitching, Entz the week of March 24 to 30 and Tejada the week of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2.
Thomson earned a save and suffered a 2-1 loss in two appearances on the mound during the week. His save came in a 14-11 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) April 2 at the DMACC baseball diamond. He pitched two-thirds of an inning and struck out the only two batters he faced.
Thomson took the loss in a 2-1 decision against North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) April 4 at Mason City. He pitched all six innings, allowing two runs on three hits with 12 strikeouts and two walks. Only one of the two runs allowed by Thomson was earned. He held the Trojans to just one hit over the last five innings and his 12 strikeouts were a season high.
Thomson is 2-3 with one save and a 3.47 earned run average this season. He has pitched 36 and a third innings, allowing 17 runs, 14 earned runs, on 19 hits with 67 strikeouts and 19 walks. Thomson his averaging 16.60 strikeouts per nine innings and is averaging 1.05 hits and walks per inning.
The DMACC baseball team, 13-20 overall and 7-8 in the ICCAC, will face Southeastern Community College (SECC) in a single game April 10 at the DMACC baseball diamond. SECC leads the ICCAC at 14-0 and is 29-6 overall. The Blackhawks are ranked fourth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
