The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Drew Owen the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Baseball for the week of April 6 to 12.
Owen, a freshman from Alleman, is being honored by the ICCAC for the second time this season and he is one of six members of the DMACC baseball team to be honored by the conference this spring. He was also honored the week of March 2 to 8.
Brock Moore, a sophomore from Urbandale, and Adam Leininger, a sophomore from Fargo, N.D., have also been honored for their hitting, Moore the week of March 30 to April 5 and Leininger the week of Feb. 2 to 8.
Andrew Theiss, a sophomore from Clear Lake, Grayson Kirsch, a freshman from Marion, and Gage Miller, a sophomore from Mandan, N.D., have been honored for their pitching performances. Theiss was honored the week of March 23 to 29, Kirsch the week of March 2 to 8 and Miller the week of Feb. 16 to 22.
Owen batted .609 with two home runs and 13 runs batted in as the Bears won six consecutive games during the week. He was 2-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI in an 8-7 win over Northeast (Iowa) Community College (NEICC) on April 6 at the DMACC baseball diamond and went 1-for-3 with one run scored and two RBIs in a 9-7 won over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in the first game of a doubleheader April 8 at the DMACC baseball diamond. Owen was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, five runs batted in and two runs scored in a 17-12 win in the second game.
Owen went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored in a 16-4 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) April 10 at the DMACC baseball diamond and was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run, two RBIs and four runs scored in a 17-4 win over NIACC in the first game of a doubleheader April 12 at the DMACC baseball diamond. Owen had two hits in five at-bats with one RBI and one run scored in an 11-10 win in the second game.
Owen is batting .449 with a .748 slugging percentage and a .526 on-base percentage this season. He has 66 hits in 147 at-bats and his hits include 14 doubles, three triples and eight home runs. Owen has driven in 49 runs and scored 59 runs. He is 10-of-13 in stolen bases.
Owen is fourth in the ICCAC in batting average.
