DMACC men's golf team finishes third in NJCAA Region XI Fall Preview
  • DMACC finishes behind Kirkwood CC and Iowa Central CC
  •  CoFR Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada leads the Bears with a three-under-par 69
  • Freshman Sam Vertanen of Ames finishes sixth with a one-over-par 73

 

The DMACC men's golf team came away with a third-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Fall Preview Sept. 20 at The Preserve on Lake Rathbun Golf Course at Moravia.

 

Kirkwood Community College (KCC) took the team championship with an 18-hole score of 294. Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) finished second with a 296 and DMACC was third at 300, 10 strokes ahead of fourth-place Hawkeye Community College (HCC).

 

DMACC Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada shared medalist honors with KCC's Brandon McCarty. Both posted three-under-par rounds of 69.

 

DMACC got a sixth-place finish from freshman Sam Vertanen of Ames, who shot a one-over-par 73. CoFR Logan Barnes of Altoona shot 77 and tied for 15th, freshman Ethan Gillis of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, turned in an 81, finishing in 25th place and CoFR Joe Dean of Cedar Falls finished in 26th place with an 82.

 

 

DMACC freshman Hogan Henrich of Newell, CoFR Jack West of Winterset and CoFR Ryan Nichols of Ogden also played in the tournament. Henrich tied for 19th with a 78, West tied for 28th with an 84 and Nichols finished 37th with a 94.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will play in the Quad Cup Sept. 24 at Brooks Golf Club in Arnolds Park.
