The DMACC men's golf team is tied for seventh place after the first day of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Fall Preview October 18 and 19 at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin, Mo.
Teams played 36 holes on the first day and will conclude the tournament with 18 holes today.
DMACC posted scores of 313 and 310 in its first two rounds and is tied with Walters State Community College (WSCC) for seventh place at 623. Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) leads the tournament with a 36-hole score of 580. MGCCC's Matt Wilkinson is the individual leader with a two-round total of three-under-par 141. Wilkinson shot rounds of 72 and 69 on the first day.
DMACC was led by Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada. Sansgaard shot rounds of 73 and 77 for a six-over-par 150 and is tied for 11th place.
CoFR Logan Barnes of Altoona and CoFR Joe Dean of Cedar Falls are tied for 27th and 32nd respectively. Barnes posted two rounds of 78 for a 156 total and Dean shot scores of 84 and 75 for a 159.
Rounding out DMACC's performance on the first day were freshmen Ethan Gillis of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, and Sam Vertanen of Ames. Gillis shot rounds of 81 and 80 for a 161 and is tied for 34th and Vertanen is tied for 45th at 163 after rounds of 81 and 82.
DMACC CoFR Jack West of Winterset and freshman Hogan Henrich of Newell are playing in the individual portion of the tournament and are tied for 61st and 69th respectively. West posted two rounds of 83 for a 166 total and Henrich shot scores of 92 and 88 for a 36-hole score of 180.
