- Tournament closes the fall season for DMACC men's golf team
- CoFR Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada ties for 14th place
- CoFR Logan Barnes of Altoona finishes in a tie for 19th place
The DMACC men's golf team closed out the fall season with an eighth-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Preview October 18 and 19 at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin, Mo.
The Bears posted a 320 in their final round for a 54-hole total of 943. They finished three strokes behind seventh-place Walters State Community College (WSCC). Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) won the team championship with 881 strokes after shooting 301 in the final round. MSCCC's Matt Wilkinson won took medalist honors with a three-under-par 213, shooting an even-par 72 in his final round.
Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada led DMACC with a 14th-place finish. Sansgaard shot 83 on the final day for a 54-hole total of 233. CoFR Logan Barnes of Altoona was one stroke behind Sansgaard at 234 and tied for 19th place. He shot 78 in his last round.
Freshman Sam Vertanen of Ames led the Bears on the second day, posting a five-over-par 77 for a 54-hole score of 240 and tying for 30th place. CoFR Joe Dean of Cedar Falls and freshman Ethan Gillis of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, tied for 39th and 43rd respectively. Dan shot 83 in his last round and finished with 242 strokes and Gillis shot 82 and finished at 243.
Two DMACC golfers, CoFR Jack West of Winterset and freshman Hogan Henrich of Newell competed in the individual section of the tournament. West finished with 253 strokes after an 83 in his final round and Henrich finished at 269, shooting an 89 on the final day.
