DMACC men's golf team ties for second in Ron Streck Invitational

 

The DMACC men's golf team came away with a tie for second place in the Ron Streck Invitational March 15 at Meadowbrook Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

 

The Bears shot a tournament-best 294 in their second round for a 36-hole score of 619, tying them with Evangel University. Columbia College took the team championship with a score of 605.

 

DMACC was led by Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada. Sansgaard posted a one-under-par 70 in his second round and finished the 36-hole tournament at four-over-par 146, trying him for medalist honors with Noah Wilson of Columbia College.

 

Other DMACC scores included a 155 by CoFR Logan Barnes of Altoona; a 158 by freshman Ethan Gillis of Pickering, Ontario, Canada; a 161 by freshman Sam Vertanen of Ames and CoFR Jack West of Winterset; a 165 by CoFR Joe Dean of Cedar Falls; and a 176 by CoFR Ryan Nichols of Ogden.

 

Barnes, who shot 75 on the second day, finished in a tie for 10th place; Gillis turned in a 72 on the second day and tied for 15th; Vertanen shot a 77 and West posted an 86 on their second rounds and they tied for 24th place. Dean and Nichols shot 80 and 84 respectively on their second tour of the course with Dean tying for 35th and Nichols tying for 49th.

 

The DMACC men's golf team is idle until April 8 when the Bears will host the DMACC Invitational. The one-day tournament will be played at the Ames Golf and Country Club in Ames.
