DMACC men's golf team finishes fourth in DMACC Invitational
  • Tyler Sansgaard leads DMACC with a tie for fifth place
  • Joe Dean and Sam Vertanen tie for 14th and 18th respectively
  • Kirkwood Community College wins team championship

 

The DMACC men's golf team came away with a fourth-place finish in the DMACC Invitational April 11 at the Ames Golf & Country Club. The Bears posted a 36-hole score of 595, shooting 300 in the first round and 295 in the second round.

 

Kirkwood Community College (KCC) won the team championship with a score of 574.  Trailing the Eagles were Hawkeye Community College (HCC) at 581, Illinois Central College (ICC) at 586 and DMACC.

 

Medalist honors went to HCC's Tony Bell who shot rounds of 70 and 71 to finish with a one-under-par 141.

 

DMACC was led by Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada. Sansgaard posted scores of 74 and 70 for a 144 total and tied for fifth. CoFR Joe Dean of Cedar Falls, freshman Sam Vertanen of Ames and CoFR Jack West of Winterset tied for 14th, 18th and 20th respectively. Dean shot rounds of 75 and 74 for a 36-hole score of 149 and Vertanen turned in rounds of 77 and 74 for a 151. West was one stroke back at 152 on rounds of 75 and 77. DMACC freshman Ethan Gillis of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, tied for 22nd with a score of 155. He shot rounds of 76 and 79.

 

DMACC CoFR Ryan Nichols of Ogden played in the individual portion of the tournament. He finished in 27th place on rounds of 89 and 80 for a 169 total.

 

The DMACC men 's golf team will play in the Battle of Waterloo April 15 and 16 at Waterloo.
