The DMACC men's golf team came away with a second-place finish in the Battle of Waterloo April 15 and 16 at Waterloo.
Hawkeye Community College (HCC), the host team, won the team championship with a 54-hole score of 917, three strokes ahead of DMACC's 920 score. Jordan Lester of William Penn University (WPU) took medalist honors with a nine-over-par 225.
DMACC was led by Covid-19 freshman Logan Barnes of Altoona and freshman Sam Vertanen of Ames who tied for seventh place in the individual competition. Barnes shot rounds of 75, 78 and 78 for a 54-hole total of 231 and Vertanen also posted a 231 on rounds of 78, 78 and 75.
DMACC freshman Ethan Gillis of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, and CoFR Jack West of Winterset tied for 11th with 54-hole scores of 233. Gillis turned in scores of 75, 81 and 77 and West shot rounds of 73, 81 and 79.
Rounding out DMACC's performance were CoFR Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada and CoFR Joe Dean of Cedar Falls. Sansgaard finished 14th with a score of 237. He posted scores of 82, 80 and 75. Dean tied for 15th on rounds of 72, 79 and 87 for a 54-hole score of 238.
The DMACC men's golf team will play in the NIACC Invitational today at Mason City.
