- DMACC finishes six strokes ahead of Parkland College
- Freshman Grady Sigrist leads Bears with a second-place finish
- Sophomore Ryan Schmierer and freshman Noah Moberg tie for third
Freshman Grady Sigrist of Norwalk shot a 4-over-par 146 to lead the DMACC men's golf team to a first-place finish in the Cougar Shootout March 30 at D.A. Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
The Bears won the team championship behind rounds of 291 and 304 for a 36-hole score of 595 and finished six strokes ahead of Parkland College (PC). Heartland (Ill.) Community College (HICC) was third with 609 strokes.
The win was the second in as many outings for the DMACC men's golf team this spring. The Bears won the Hannibal-LaGrange Spring Invite March 23 and 24 in their first tournament of the season.
Sigrist shot a 2-under-par 69 in his first round and turned in a 77 on his second round to finish second in the individual competition, two strokes behind tournament medalist, Luke Brady of HICC. Brady shot rounds of 70 and 74.
DMACC sophomore Ryan Schmierer of North Liberty and freshman Noah Moberg of Grimes tied for third with 36-hole scores of 148. Schmierer shot identical rounds of 74 and turned in a 73 and a 75.
Other DMACC results included an eight-place finish from freshman Archie Nelson of Albert Lea, Minn., and a tie for 21st by sophomore Luke Linde of Winterset and freshman Fareez Alexander of Kimberly Western Cape, South Africa.
Nelson posted rounds of 76 and 73 for a two-round total of 149 and Linde and Alexander finished at 12-over-par 154. Linde shot rounds of 76 and 78 and Alexander posted rounds of 75 and 79.
The DMACC men's golf team will play in the DMACC Spring Invitational April 6 at Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone.
