DMACC men's golf team finishes sixth in North Central District Championship

 

The DMACC men's golf team closed out the spring season with a sixth-place finish in the North Central District Championship May 5 at Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City.

 

The Bears shot a 312 in the third and final round of the tournament, giving them a 54-hole score of 939 strokes. Kirkwood Community College (KCC) took the team championship with 890 strokes after posting a 291 in the third round. Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NENCC) finished second at 891 and Southeast (Neb.) Community College (SENCC) was third with 919 strokes.

 

Sophomore Luke Linde of Winterset led DMACC with a tie for 18th place in the individual competition. Linde shot a 3-over-par 75 in the final round for a 54-hole score of 234 strokes.

 

Freshman Archie Nelson of Albert Lea, Minn., finished in a tie for 22nd and freshman Noam Moberg of Grimes placed 30th. Nelson posted an 83 in the third round for a 54-hole score of 236 and Moberg finished at 241 after a 78 in the third round.

 

Three other DMACC golfers, freshmen Cade Sunde of West Des Moines and Grady Sigrist of Norwalk and sophomore Ryan Schmierer of North Liberty also played in the tournament. Sunde played the second and third rounds and posted a 36-hole score of 159. Sigrist played in the first and second rounds and turned in a 36-hole score of 161 on rounds of 74 and 87 and Schmierer played in the third round and shot a 78.

 

KCC's Ted Sargeant was the tournament medalist with a 54-hole score of 210. Sergeant was under par on all three of his rounds over the par 72 layout, shooting 69, 60 and 71.

 

The tournament was the last of the spring season for the DMACC men's golf team, ranked eighth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, but the Bears remain in the running for an at-large bid to the 2026 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Men's Golf Championship. The tournament will be played May 19 to 22 at Swan Lake Golf Resort in Plymouth, Ind.
