DMACC softball team seeded eighth in national tournament; Bears will play St. Johns River College in first round
  • DMACC takes a 46-9 record into tournament play
  • St. Johns River State College is 50-15
  • Tournament begins May 20 at Spartanburg, S.

The DMACC softball team will take a No. 8 seed into the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball World Series May 20 to 25 at Tyger River Park in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Bears, ranked ninth in the final Division II poll of the season from the NJCAA, will face St. Johns River State College (SJRSC) in a first-round game at 2 p.m. May 20. SJRSC brings a 50-15 record into the tournament and is seeded ninth.

A win against SJRSC will put the Bears in a second-round game against top-seeded Parkland College (PC) in all likelihood. Potomac State College, seeded 16th, and Macomb Community College (MCC), seeded 17th, will meet in a play-in game May 20 and the winner will face PC on May 21. PC, PSC or MCC will meet the DMACC-SJRSC winner at 11 a.m. May 22.

A loss to SJRSC will send DMACC to the consolation bracket where the Bears will face one of three teams pending the results of another play-in game and a first-round game.

Teams losing first-round games and moving to the consolation bracket can still win the national championship but would have to remain unbeaten the rest of the tournament.

The double-elimination tournament continues through May 25 when the championship game will be played at 4 p.m.
