DMACC's Ella Husak named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Husak collected 17 hits in 22 at-bats during the week
  • Husak scored 13 runs and drove in two runs
  • Husak was 8-for-8 as the Bears swept a doubleheader from Hawkeye CC

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Ella Husak the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball for the Week of April 7 to 13.

 

Husak, a freshman from Polk City, is being honored for the first time this season and she is one of eight members of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season.

 

Freshman Erin Ades of Boone was honored the week of March 31 to April 6 and sophomore Breanna Caffery of Bettendorf was honored the week of March 24 to 30. Freshman Macee Reilling of Dallas Center earned the honor the week of Feb. 24 to March 2 and sophomore Hilary Wilson of Solon was honored the week of Feb. 17 to 23.

 

DMACC pitchers earning the honor include freshman Jacki Baas of Bondurant, freshman Kierra Jungers of Fonda and sophomore Macy Blomgren of Waukee. Baas was honored the week of March 24 to 30 and Jungers was honored the weeks of March 224 to 30, March 17 to 23, March 3 to 9, Feb. 24 to March 2 and Feb. 17 to 23. Blomgren received the honor the week of Feb. 10 to 16.

Husak, who bats leadoff, was 17-for 22 as the Bears compiled a 5-1 record during the week. Her 17 hits included one triple. She scored 13 runs and drove in two runs.

 

Husak was 1-for-3 with two runs scored in a 4-2 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in the first game of a doubleheader April 9 at Mason City. She was 2-for-4 in a 6-3 win in the second game.

 

Husak was a perfect 8-for-8 as the Bears swept a doubleheader from Hawkeye Community College (HCC) April 12 at Waterloo. She was 5-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI in a 10-5 win in the first game and went 3-for-3, including a triple, with three runs scored and one RBI in a 10-1 win in the second game.

 

Husak's perfection continued April 13 against Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) as she went 4-for-4 with four runs scored in DMACC's 12-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader. She was 2-for-3 in the second game, won by ICCC, 3-2.

 

Husak leads the Bears and the ICCAC in hitting with a .500 average. She also has a .546 on-base percentage and a .566 slugging percentage. Husak has 68 hits in 136 at-bats and her hits include three doubles and three triples. She has scored 56 runs and driven in 30 runs. Husak is second to Caffery in stolen bases with 33. Caffery leads the Bears and the ICCAC in stolen bases with 54 and Husak is second in the conference and one the team.
