The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Ella Husak the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball for the week of April 28 to May 4.
Husak, a freshman from Polk City, is being honored by the ICCAC for the second time this season and she is one of nine members of the DMACC softball team to be honored this season. She was also honored the week of April 7 to 13.
Bri Tigges, a freshman from Urbandale, Erin Ades, a freshman from Boone, Breanna Caffery, a sophomore from Bettendorf, Macee Reilling, a freshman from Dallas Center and Hilary Wilson, a sophomore from Solon, have all been honored for their hitting and freshman Jacki Baas of Bondurant and Kierra Jungers of Fonda and sophomore Macy Blomgren of Waukee have been honored for their pitching with Jungers earning the honor five times and Blomgren earning the honor twice.
Husak batted .667 in helping the Bears to three wins and the Region 11-A championship during the week. She had six hits in nine at-bats, scored four runs and stole four bases in the three wins.
Husak was 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two stolen bases in the Bears' 8-4 win over Hawkeye Community College (HCC) in their tournament opener May 2 at the DMACC softball diamond. She had a walk and a stolen base in a 2-1 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in the tournament's championship bracket game on May 3 and was 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in a 5-3 win over NIACC in the championship game on May 4.
Husak is batting a team-leading .511 this season with a .570 on-base percentage and a .567 slugging percentage. She has 92 hits in 180 at-bats and her hits include four doubles and three triples. Husak has driven in 33 runs and scored a team-leading 82 runs. She has 47 stolen bases in 47 attempts.
Husak leads the ICCAC in hitting and is second to Caffery in stolen bases. Caffery has stolen 54 bases this season.
The DMACC softball team, 53-5 and ranked fourth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, will host Dawson Community College (DCC) in the Northwest Plains District Softball Tournament May 9 and 10. The two teams will play a doubleheader on May 9 and a single game, if necessary, on May 10. The winner of the best 2-of-3 series advances to the 2025 NJCAA Division II Softball World Series May 19 to 24 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
DMACC is seeking its 10th consecutive district championship and its 10th consecutive appearance in the national tournament.
