DMACC softball team splits two games in Branson tourney
  • DMACC drops 3-2 decision to Johnson County CC in eight innings
  • Bears beat Southwestern Illinois College, 8-0, in a five-inning game
  • Six-games in Tennessee are next on the DMACC schedule

 

The DMACC softball team returned home from the Branson Grand Slam Classic in Brason, Mo., at 11-4 after splitting a pair of games on March 6.

 

The Bears, ranked sixth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), dropped a 3-2, eight-inning decision to No. 13 Johnson County Community College (JCCC) in the first game and came away with an 8-0 win against Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) in the second game.

 

JCCC pushed a run across the plate in the bottom of the eighth for its win against the Bears. The Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second and scored another run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2 after DMAC scored a pair of runs in the top of the second.

 

The Bears hit six singles against JCCC pitching and got one run batted in apiece from sophomore Macee Reiling of Dallas Center and freshman Brooklyn Teerlinck of Bettendorf.

 

Sophomore Kierra Jungers of Fonda pitched the first three innings for the Bears, allowing two runs on two hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore Jacki Baas of Bondurant went four and a third innings and fell to 6-1 with her first loss of the season. She allowed one run on three hits, struck out seven and walked two.

 

Reiling homered and drove in four runs in DMACC's win over SWIC. The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, made it a 5-0 game with three runs in the third and got the win behind a run in the fourth and two in the fifth.

 

Freshmen Dana Blake of Indianola and Cali Richards of Des Moines and sophomore Morgan Neuroth of LeGrand had two hits apiece for the Bears including a double from Blake. Sophomore Tri Tigges of Urbandale doubled for DMACC.

 

Sophomore Brooklyn Baumgardner of Slater went the distance and improved to 2-0 with the win. She allowed two hits, struck out three and walked two.
