The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Mackenzie Mohler the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball for the week of March 16 to 22.
Mohler, a freshman from West Des Moines, is being honored for the first time this season and she is one of three members of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. Sophomore Macee Reiling of Dallas Center was honored the weeks of Feb. 23 to March 1 and Feb. 9 to 15 and sophomore Kierra Jungers of Fonda was honored for her pitching the weeks of Feb. 23 to March 1 and Feb. 9 to 15.
Mohler batted .526 with six extra-base hits and nine runs batted in as the Bears won five of six games during the week. Her hits included three doubles and three home runs and she scored nine runs.
Mohler was 2-of-3 with a double and a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored in a 5-2 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NENCC) March 19 at Norfolk, Neb., and went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in the Bears' 8-6 win in the second game.
Mohler went 1-for-3 with an RBI in an 8-3 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) March 21 at Cedar Rapids and was 1-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored in DMACC's 10-9 win in the second game.
Mohler was 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and one RBI in an 8-0 win over Hawkeye Community College (HCC) March 22 at Hudson and was 1-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored in a 13-0 win in the second game.
Mohler is batting .420 with a .716 slugging percentage and a .481 on-base percentage this season. She is 37-for-88 at the plate and her hits include 11 doubles and five home runs. Mohler has scored 30 runs and driven in 22 runs. She is a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases.
The DMACC softball team, 22-7 overall and 7-1 in the ICCAC, is ranked ninth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and has a five-game winning streak. The Bears face Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in a doubleheader March 26 at Creston. SWCC, an NJCAA Division I program, is 7-21 and has not yet played any Division I conference games.
