DMACC softball team sweeps doubleheaders from ILCC and ICCC
  • Bears get 7-1 and 6-0 wins from Iowa Lakes CC
  • DMACC takes 11-3 and 8-1 decisions from Iowa Central CC
  • Bears face Central Community College today

 

The DMACC softball team ran its record to 28-7 overall and 11-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) by sweeping doubleheaders from Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) and Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) March 28 and 29 respectively.

 

The Bears, ranked ninth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), beat ILCC 7-1 and 6-0 March 28 at Estherville and took 11-3 and 8-1 decisions from ICCC March 29 at Fort Dodge.

 

The wins stretched DMACC's winning streak to 11 consecutive games. The Bears dropped the first game of a doubleheader against Kirkwood Community College (KCC) March 21 at Cedar Rapids, 8-3, and started the winning streak with a 10-9 win in the second game. Since then, they have taken doubleheaders from Hawkeye Community College (HCC), Ellsworth Community College (ECC), Southwestern Community College (SWCC), ILCC and ICCC in succession.

 

Sophomore Jacki Baas of Bondurant pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 in DMACC's win over ILCC in the opener on March 28. The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the first, padded their advantage with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and four runs in the sixth. ILCC scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh.

 

Sophomore Macee Reiling of Dallas Center paced DMACC at the plate with two hits, including a home run, and four runs batted in. Sophomore Morgan Neuroth of LeGrand and freshman Brooklyn Teerlinck of Bettendorf had three hits apiece and freshmen Mackenzie Mohler of West Des Moines and Cali Richards of Des Moines joined Reiling with two hits each. Extra-base hits included doubles from Neuroth and Richards.

 

Baas went the distance and walked just one batter in coming away with the win.

 

Sophomore Kierra Jungers of Fonda scattered three hits and struck out 17 in winning the second game.

 

The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the second and added five runs in the third. They had seven hits, all singles, with Reiling collecting two. Sophomore Erin Ades of Boone drove in three runs and Teerlinck had two RBIs.

 

Mohler had three hits, including a home run, and drove in five runs in DMACC's win over ICCC in the opener on March 29. The Bears scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings and closed out the win with four runs in the sixth and four in the seventh. ICCC, ranked 21st in NJCAA Division II, scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh.

 

Neuroth collected four DMACC hits, including two doubles and a home run, and Ades and freshman Dana Blake of Indianola had two hits apiece. Extra-base hits included doubles from Reiling and Blake and home runs by Teerlinck and Blake.

 

Baas went the distance and improved to 14-2 with the win. She allowed three runs on seven hits, struck out 11 and walked one.

 

Teerlinck had three singles and drove in two runs in DMACC's win in the second game. The Bears led 4-1 after the first inning and closed out the win with two runs in the fourth and one each in the fifth and sixth innings.

 

Richards joined Teerlinck with multiple hits, getting a single and a double, and Reiling and sophomore Bri Tigges of Urbandale added doubles.

 

Jungers improved to 11-5 with the win. She pitched all seven innings, allowing one run on two hits with eight strikeouts and a walk.

 

The DMACC softball team will face Central (Neb.) Community College (CNCC) in a doubleheader today at Columbus, Neb. The games were originally scheduled to be played April 1 but were moved to today after the forecast predicted possible inclement weather on April 1. CNCC is 12-15 overall and 4-8 in the ICCAC.
