DMACC's Mackenzie Mohler named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Mohler batted .516 as the Bears won eight games during the week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Mackenzie Mohler the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball for the Week of March 23 to 29.

 

Mohler, a freshman from West Des Moines, is being honored by the conference for the second consecutive week and she is one of three members of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. Sophomore Macee Reiling of Dallas Center has been honored twice for her hitting, the weeks of Feb. 23 to March 1 and the week of Feb. 9 to 15. Sophomore Kierra Jungers of Fonda has been honored for her pitching three times, the week of March 23 to 29, the week of Feb. 23 to March 1 and the week of Feb. 9 to 15.

 

Mohler batted .516 with 13 runs batted in and 17 runs scored as the Bears won eight consecutive games during the week. Her hits included five doubles and a home run.

 

Mohler was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and a run scored in a 10-1 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in the first game of a doubleheader on March 24 at the DMACC softball diamond and was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI in a 15-2 win in the second game.

 

Mohler went 3-for-5 with three doubles, three runs batted in and four runs scored in a 16-0 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in the first game of a doubleheader on March 26 at Creston and had two hits in four at-bats with a double and two runs scored in a 12-1 win in the second game.

 

Mohler was 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in a 7-1 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in the first game of a doubleheader March 28 at Estherville and was 1-for-4 with two runs scored in a 6-0 win in the second game.

 

Mohler had three hits in four at-bats, including a home run, drove in five runs and scored two runs in an 11-3 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in the first game of a doubleheader March 29 at Fort Dodge and was 1-for-4 with a run scored in an 8-1 win in the second game.

 

Mohler is batting .446 with a .752 slugging percentage and a .420 on-base percentage this season. She has 54 hits in 121 at-bats and her hits include 16 doubles and seven home runs. Mohler has driven in 34 runs, scored 44 runs and is 7-for-7 in stolen bases. She is fifth in the ICCAC in hitting and leads the conference in hits. She ranks third in doubles and sixth in home runs.

 

The DMACC softball team is 30-7 overall, 13-1 in the ICCAC and is ranked ninth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Bears, who have a 13-game winning streak, will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in a doubleheader April 6 at the DMACC softball diamond. NIACC is 25-12 overall and 10-4 in the ICCAC. The Trojans are ranked 23rd in NJCAA Division II.
