Freshmen Brooklyn Teerlinck of Bettendorf and Mackenzie Mohler of West Des Moines provided the bulk of the offense as the DMACC softball team swept a doubleheader from North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) April 6 at the DMACC softball diamond.
Teerlink hit three singles and drove in four runs in the Bears' 10-2 win in the first game and Mohler homered and drove in a pair of runs in a 4-2 win in the second game.
The Bears, ranked eighth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), improved to 32-7 overall and 15-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with the wins. They have won 15 consecutive games and have swept doubleheaders from their last seven opponents.
DMACC used three runs in the first, one in the third, five in the fourth and one in the sixth in winning the first game, which was called after six innings because of the run rule.
NIACC fell to 25-14 overall and 10-6 in the ICCAC with the losses. The Trojans, who are ranked 22nd in NJCAA Division II, scored both of their runs in the top of the fourth.
Sophomore Bri Tigges of Urbandale and freshman Cali Richards of Des Moines had two hits apiece in the win, including a home run and two RBIs from Tigges and a double and three RBIs from Richards.
Sophomore Kierra Jungers of Fonda pitched all six innings and improved to 12-5 with the win. She allowed two runs on two hits, struck out 11 and walked three.
DMACC scored a run in the second and three in the third in winning the second game. NIACC tallied its two runs in the top of the fifth.
Teerlinck and sophomore Morgan Neuroth of LeGrand had two hits apiece in the win, including a home run from Mohler and a triple from Neuroth. Neuroth and Richards drove in one run apiece for the Bears, who also got a double from Teerlinck.
Sophomore Jacki Baas of Bondurant improved to 16-2 with the win. She went seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits and struck out seven batters.
The DMACC softball team will face Northeast (Iowa) Community College (NEICC) in a doubleheader today at the DMACC softball diamond. The Cougars are 11-30 overall and 3-15 in the ICCAC.
