DMACC's Kierra Jungers named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Jungers pitched a four-inning no-hitter during the week

  • Jungers is 20-6 and leads the NJCAA in strikeouts with 291

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Kierra Jungers the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the week of April 20 to 26.

 

Jungers, a sophomore from Fonda, is being honored by the conference for the fifth time this season and she is one of four members of the DMACC softball team to be honored during the current season. Jungers was also honored the weeks of April 13 to 19, March 23 to 29, Feb. 23 to March 1 and Feb. 9 to 15.

 

Sophomores Macee Reiling of Dallas Center and Bri Tigges of Urbandale and freshman Mackenzie Mohler of West Des Moines have also been honored for their hitting. Reiling has been honored three times, the weeks of April 20 to 26, Feb. 23 to March 1 and Feb. 9 to 15 and Tigges was honored the week of April 13 to 19. Mohler has been honored twice, the weeks of March 23 to 29 and March 16 to 22.

 

Jungers allowed one run on two hits with two walks and 29 strikeouts over 14 innings during the week. She allowed one run on one hit with two walks and nine strikeouts over five innings in a 10-1 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College April 22 at the DMACC softball diamond and pitched a four-inning no-hitter with nine strikeouts in a 13-0 win over Central (Neb.) Community College (CNCC) April 24 at the DMACC softball diamond.

 

Jungers closed out the week with a one-hitter and 11 strikeouts in five innings in a 13-0 win over Hawkeye Community College (HCC) April 25 at the DMACC softball diamond.

 

Jungers is 20-6 with a 1.40 earned run average this season. She has pitched 159 and two-thirds innings, allowing 44 runs, 32 earned runs, on 59 hits. She has walked 32 batters and struck out 291. Jungers, who has pitched 18 complete games and has one save, is averaging 12.76 strikeouts per nine innings and is allowing .63 hits and walks per inning.

 

Jungers leads Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the ICCAC in strikeouts and is second in the ICCAC in ERA.

 

The DMACC softball team completed the regular season at 49-10 overall and 32-4 in the ICCAC with a 15-game winning streak. The Bears, ranked 10th in the NJCAA Division II poll, finished second to top-ranked Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in the ICCAC.

 

DMACC will be the No. 2 seed in the Region 11-B tournament May 1 to 3 at the DMACC softball diamond. The Bears will face NENCC in their tournament opener May 1 at 2 p.m. Third-seeded Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) and sixth-seeded HCC make up the other half of the bracket and will play at 4 p.m. on May 1. The double-elimination tournament continues with a championship bracket game and elimination games on May 2. The championship game is slated for noon on May 3 and a second championship, if needed, would be played immediately following the first championship game.

 

DMACC had its way against all three Region 11-B opponents during the regular season, sweeping four games from each.

 

The Region 11-B champion will advance to either the North Central District tournament or 2026 NJCAA Division II Softball World Series, pending the outcome of the Region 11-A tournament. No. 1-seeded KCC, eight-seeded Ellsworth Community College (ECC), fourth-seeded North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) and fifth-seeded Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) make up the bracket in the Region 11-A tournament.

 

The top seeded champion Region 11A/B will move on to the 2026 NJCAA Division II Softball World Series and the lower seeded champion will advance to the North Central District tournament.
