Sophomores Jacki Baas of Bondurant pitched a no-hitter and sophomore Kierra Jungers of Fonda threw a three-hitter as the DMACC softball team swept a doubleheader from Dawson Community College (DCC) in the Northwest Plains B District Championship May 7 at Glendive, Mont.
Baas' no-hitter came in the second game, a 9-0 win for the Bears, and Jungers three-hitter came in an 8-0 win in the first game. The wins send the Bears to the 2026 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball World Series May 19 to 24 at Spartanburg, S.C. DMACC qualified for the tournament for the 12th consecutive season and the 13th time since 2012.
DMACC won the opener with a run in the first, two in the second, three in the third and two in the sixth. Sophomore Mo Purdy of Des Moines and freshman Dana Blake of Indianola paced the Bears at the plate with two hits apiece, including a double from Purdy. Sophomores Erin Ades of Boone and Bri Tigges of Urbandale and freshman Cali Richards of Des Moines also doubled for the Bears. Blake drove in a pair of runs and Tigges, Purdy, Richards, sophomores Baylor Gregory of Papillion, Neb., and Morgan Neuroth of LeGrand had one RBI apiece.
Jungers improved to 23-6 with the win. She struck out 13 batters and walked one.
Richards and Gregory each homered for DMACC in the second game. The Bears led 1-0 after the first inning and made it a 7-0 game with six runs in the third inning. They closed out the win with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and the game was called because of the run rule.
DMACC was limited to five hits in the win, including two from Gregory. Ades added a double and Richards drove in four of DMACC's runs. Gregory had two RBIs and freshman Mackenzie Mohler of West Des Moines added an RBI.
Baas ran her record to 25-4. She struck out four batters.
