Four DMACC softball players earn tournament honors

Four DMACC softball players earn tournament honors

Four members of DMACC softball team, sophomores Erin Ades of Boone, Bri Tigges of Urbandale, Morgan Neuroth of LeGrand and Kierra Jungers of Fonda, were honored for their tournament play following the conclusion of the 2026 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball World Series May 25 at Boiling Springs, S.C.

Ades, Tigges and Neuroth were named to the all-tournament team announced at the conclusion of the championship game and Jungers was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Pitcher.

Ades had eight hits in 25 at-bats, scored three runs and drove in five runs in the Bears' eight tournament games. Tigges was 10-of-23, including a double, three runs scored and two runs driven in and Neuroth went 12-of-27 with a pair of home runs, seven runs scored and six RBIs.

Neuroth provided all of the heroics when she hit a three-run home run in a 3-0 win over Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in an elimination game on May 24 and Tigges may have made the most outstanding defensive play of the tournament when she snagged a potential home with a catch at the top of the fence in right field in the fifth inning of the Bears' 4-3 win over Murray State College (MSC), also on May 24.

Ades, Tigges and Neuroth also played outstanding defense in the tournament.

Jungers had a 5-1 record with one save in 34 innings in the circle. She allowed four runs, all earned, on 17 hits with 57 strikeouts and eight walks. Jungers, who threw a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over KCC, had an 0.68 earned run average and allowed .7 walks and hits per inning. Opposing batters hit just .145 against Jungers.

"What we saw from Kierra Jungers in the World Series is about as good as anyone could ever expect to see from a pitcher at that level," said DMACC softball coach Bob Ligouri. "She was just imposing and that's a credit to (DMACC assistant coaches) Thana Heller and Bailey Richards) and their development."

DMACC, the tournament's No. 9 seed, battled through five consecutive games in the elimination bracket to face fifth-seeded Pearl River Community College (PRCC) in the championship game, won by PRCC, 2-1.

The DMACC softball team concluded the season with a 60-12 record, setting a school record for the most wins in a season.
