Freshman Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia scored 18 points and Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Magan Christopherson of Milford added 11 as the DMACC women's basketball team dropped a 78-54 decision to Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) February 16 at Norfolk, Neb.
The loss was the 15th of the season for the Bears against 13 victories. DMACC fell to 5-13 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
DMACC kept the game close throughout the first half, leading 15-14 at the end of the first quarter and trailing 30-27 at halftime. NECC began pulling away in the third quarter and led 55-43 heading into the fourth period.
DMACC shot 38 percent in the loss, hitting 20 of 53 field goal attempts. The Bears were 8-of-27 from three-point range and 6-of-8 from the free throw line.
Christopherson barely missed a double-double with nine rebounds as the Bears matched NECC's 35 rebounds in the game. Freshman Reagan Franzen of Polk City had eight rebounds and CoFR Lexi Branning of Manning had six. Christopherson and freshman Payton Tahahwah of Tama topped DMACC in assists with four apiece.
The DMACC women's basketball team will play Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Feb. 19. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. SWCC, which defeated the Bears 71-60 Jan. 8 at Creston, is 6-21 overall and 6-12 in the ICCAC. DMACC women's basketball coach Steve Krafcisin will be honored at the conclusion of the game. Krafcisin is retiring at the end of the season. He has served as the DMACC women's basketball coach for 17 seasons.
