The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Whitney Jensen the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Women's Basketball for the week of November 10 to 16.
Jensen, a sophomore from Remsen, is being honored for the first time this season and she is one of two members of the DMACC women's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. Freshman Alivia Carr of Bettendorf was honored the week of Nov. 3 to 9.
Jensen scored 36 points in leading the Bears to two wins during the week. In addition to her scoring, Jensen pulled down 14 rebounds, had 12 steals and dished out eight assists in the two wins.
Jensen scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds and came away with eight steals and four assists in DMACC's 70-60 upset of then 13th-ranked North Central Missouri College (NCMC) on the first day of the Johnson County Community College (JCCC) JCCC Classic Nov. 14 at Overland Park, Kan. She was 6-of-14 from the field, including 1-of-4 from three-point range, in the win.
On Nov. 15, Jensen scored 23 points and came away with seven rebounds, four steals and four assists in a 101-44 win over the Saint Mary's University Junior Varsity (SMUJV) in the second round of the tournament. Jensen drained 10 of 13 field goal attempts, including 1-of-2 from three-point range, and was a perfect 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
Jensen leads DMACC in scoring with 86 points and a 17.2 average, good for fifth in the ICCAC. She is shooting 52 percent from the field, having made 34 of 65 field goal attempts. She is 6-of-19 from three-point range for 32 percent and has made 12 of 16 free throw attempts for 75 percent.
Jensen also leads the Bears in rebounding with 39 rebounds and a 7.8 average. She has 26 defensive rebounds and her season includes 18 assists, 22 steals and four blocked shots.
The DMACC women's basketball team, 5-0 and ranked 18th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), will host the DMACC Classic Nov. 21 and 22 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears will play the Haskel Indian Nations Junior Varsity (HINJV) on Nov. 21 and will face Triton College (TC) on Nov. 22. TC, 3-5 for the season, will face Johnson County Community College (JCCC) in the Nov. 21 session of the DMACC Classic
