DMACC women's basketball team stays unbeaten with 87-43 win

 

Freshman Alivia Carr of Bettendorf led all scorers with 24 points as the DMACC women's basketball team defeated Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) 87-43 in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) matchup December 3 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomores Whitney Jensen of Remsen, Aunasia Dunn of Kansas City, Mo., Chloe Costello of Northwood added 14, 11 and 10 points respectively as the Bears remained undefeated at 9-0 and improved to 2-0 in the ICCAC.

 

DMACC put the game away early, taking an 18-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bears had a 44-16 advantage at halftime and were up 63-25 after three quarters.

 

DMACC, ranked 16th in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), shot 35 percent in the win, making 39 of 83 field goal attempts. The Bears were 15-of-42 from three-point range and 14-of-20 from the free throw line.

 

CCC, which got seven points apiece from Jordyn Sheridan and Samryn Dick, made 15 of 53 field goal attempts for 28 percent. The Raiders were 3-of-21 from beyond the arc and 10-of-18 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomore Breeley Clayburg of Coon Rapids pulled down 10 rebounds and Jensen, sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls and freshman Jordan Valley of Waverly had five apiece as DMACC came away with a 52-40 advantage on the boards. Valley and her sister, Brooklyn Valley, also from Waverly, dished out four assists apiece and Jensen and Jordan Valley led the Bears in steals with four apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play the Graceland University Junior Varsity tonight at Lamoni.
