DMACC women's basketball team tops SECC for 12th consecutive win

Freshman Alivia Carr of Bettendorf recorded a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 63-35 win over Southeast Community College (SECC) December 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Whitney Jensen of Remsen and freshman Jordan Valley of Waverly reached double figures with 12 and 10 points respective as the Bears ran their winning streak to 12 consecutive games. They are 12-0 overall and 4-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC, which is ranked 14th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), led throughout the game. The Bears had a 19-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and took a 27-17 lead into halftime. They were up 48-25 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 30 percent from the field, hitting 24 of 79 field goal attempts. The Bears made five of 33 shots from beyond the arc and were 10-of-13 from the free throw line.

 

SEC, which fell to 5-7 overall and 0-4 in the ICCAC, was led by Trinity Barrett with 10 points. The Blackhawks were 11 of 47 from the field, including 3-of-21 from three-point range, and 10-of-16 from the free throw line.

 

Carr's 14 rebounds lifted DMACC to a 48-33 advantage on the boards. Valley came away with seven rebounds and sophomores Breeley Clayburg of Coon Rapids and Aunasia Dunn of Kansas City, MO., had six apiece. Carr also led the Bears in assists with five and Valley dished out four. She and sophomore Chloe Costello had four steals apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play Ellsworth Community College (ECC) Dec. 13 at Iowa Falls. The Panthers are 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the ICCAC.
