- Sophomore Breeley Clayburg scores 24 points and grabs nine rebounds

Sophomore Breeley Clayburg of Coon Rapids scored a game-high 24 points and barely missed a double-double with nine rebounds in leading the DMACC women's basketball team to a 71-44 win over Southeastern Community College (SECC) February 4 at West Burlington.
Clayburg, who was the only Bear to score in double figures, got her 24 points behind 11-of-15 shooting from the field. She was perfect at the free throw line in two attempts. Sophomore Chloe Costello of Northwood had nine points, freshman Abriya Watkins of Omaha, Neb., scored eight and sophomore Whitney Jensen of Remsen and freshman Mariam Omran of Giza, Egypt, came away seven points apiece.
The win was the fifth straight for the Bears and gave them a sweep of their two-game series against the Blackhawks. DMACC improved to 18-6 overall and 10-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
SECC fell to 7-17 and 2-14. Mia Stokes led the Blackhawks with 17 points.
DMACC led just 14-9 at the end of the first quarter but took control of the game by outscoring SECC 21-6 in the second period for a 35-15 advantage at halftime. The Bears were up 59-24 at the end of the third quarter.
DMACC shot 39 percent from the field, making 29 of 75 field goal attempts. The Bears were 4-of-27 from three-point range and 9-of-11 from the free throw line.
SECC made 14 of 57 field goal attempts for 25 percent. The Blackhawks drained four of 27 attempts from beyond the arc and made 12 of 19 free throw attempts.
Clayburg's nine rebounds helped DMACC to a 53-31 advantage on the boards. Freshman Brooklyn Valley of Waverly had six rebounds and Omran, sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls and freshman Jaylyn Beran of Riceville collected five apiece.
Freshman Jordan Valley of Waverly led the Bears in assists and steals with six and four respectively.
The DMACC women's basketball team will face Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) Feb. 7 at Estherville. The Lakers, ranked 17th in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), are 17-6 overall and 13-3 in the ICCAC. They came away with a 69-61 decision when the two teams played Jan. 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
