Clayburg's 14 points and 12 rebounds lift DMACC women's basketball team past IWCC, 61-48

Sophomores Breeley Clayburg of Coon Rapids recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds as the DMACC women's basketball team avenged another loss with a 61-48 win over Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) February 14 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

Sophomore Whitney Jensen of Remsen also had a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds and sophomore Chloe Costello of Northwood finished in double figures with 11 points as the Bears improved to 21-6 overall and 13-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their eighth consecutive victory.

One of the Bears' earlier losses was a 56-52 decision against IWCC Jan. 14 at Council Bluffs. DMACC's win on Feb. 14 gave the Bears a split of their season series against the Reivers.

DMACC shot 34 percent from the field, making 20 of 50 field goal attempts. The Bears were 8-of-24 from three-point range and 13-of-16 from the free throw line.

IWCC, which fell to 13-12 and 10-9, was led by Aniyah Howard with 12 points. The Reivers were 19-of-71 from the field for 27 percent. They made five of 25 attempts from beyond the arc and were 5-of-1 from the free throw line.

Clayburg's 12 rebounds and Jensen's tend led DMACC to tie Iowa Western on the boards at 48 apiece. Jensen dished out six assists and freshman Jordan Valley, Jensen and Omran topped the Bears in seals with two apiece.

The DMACC women's basketball team will be seeking to avenge yet another loss Feb. 18 when they play Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) at Norfolk, Neb. The Hawks are 16-9 overall and 11-8 in the ICCAC. They defeated the Bears 65-60 when the two teams played Dec. 15 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
