DMACC women's golf team finishes third in Waldorf University Fall Invitational

 

The DMACC women's golf team came away with a third place finish in the second round of the Waldorf University Fall Invitational September 29 at Rice Lake Golf Course in Lake Mills.

 

The Bears, who won the first round with an 18-hole score of 321 at Wedgewood Cove Golf Course in Albert Lea, Minn., on Sept. 28, posted a 339 at the Lake Mills course and finished behind Simpson College (SC) and Buena Vista University (BVU). SC took team honors with a 320 and BVU shot a 331.

 

DMACC finished seven strokes ahead of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), which shot a 346.

 

Freshman Megan Wilde of Somerset, England, led DMACC and took second-day medalist honors with a four-over-par 75. Her round included six bogeys and two birdies.

 

Other DMACC results included an 83 by freshman Hannah Kenkel of Waukee, a 90 by freshman Sydney Helgeson of Garner, a 91 from freshman Isabella Ross of Ankeny and a 92 by sophomore Haley Loonan of Gilbert. Kenkel finished seventh in the individual competition, Helgeson placed 22nd, Ross tied for 23rd and Loonan tied for 26th.

 

DMACC sophomore Abby Cook played in the individual portion of the tournament and tied for 31st after shooting a 95.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will face NIACC in a match play event Oct. 6 at Echo Valley Country Club in Norwalk.
