Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Anna Niehaus of Carroll had 10 kills and hit .259 as the DMACC volleyball team swept all three sets in defeating Southwestern Community College (SWCC) September 22 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
The Bears, ranked 14th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), won by set scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-17. DMACC improved to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
Niehaus hit .259, getting her 10 kills from 27 attacks with three hitting errors. CoFR Kylie Welch of Davenport had seven kills and CoFR Abby Allmon of Norwalk came away with six. DMACC hit .205 in the win, getting 30 kills from 83 attacks with 13 hitting errors.
CoFR Sara Hansen led the Bears in assists with 24 and Welch and CoFR Alissa Weinkoetz of Afton had four ace serves apiece. CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque topped DMACC in digs with 13 and Welch added 11. Niehaus, CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker, Allmon and Weinkoetz had two blocks apiece.
The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Parkland Classic Sept. 24 and 25 at Champaign, Ill. The Bears will face McHenry Community College (MCC) and Vincennes University (VU) on Sept. 24 and will play Parkland Community College (PCC) and Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) on Sept. 25. MCC is ranked sixth in NJCAA Division II and PC is ranked third.
