Bears make quick work of Iowa Lakes

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Kylie Welch of Davenport had 12 kills and 12 digs as the DMACC volleyball team swept Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC), 3-0, September 29 at Estherville.

 

The Bears, ranked 14th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), won by set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-12. With the win, DMACC improved to 11-6 overall and 3-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Welch hit .417 with her 12 kills coming from 24 attacks with two hitting errors. CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker, Anna Niehaus of Carroll and Abby Allmon of Norwalk had four kills apiece. DMACC hit .298 with 32 kills from 84 attacks with seven hitting errors.

 

CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson led the Bears in assists with 18 and also had three block assists and CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque finished with 12 digs. Welch had two ace serves to go with her 12 kills and 12 digs and Maue added four block assists. Freshman Ivy Dearstone of Dubuque finished with three block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will host the DMACC Invitational Oct. 1 and 2 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears will face Heartland Community College (HCC) and Glen Oaks Community College (GOCC) in matches on Oct. 1 and will play Metropolitan Community College (MCC) and Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in matches on Oct. 2. ICCC is the top-ranked team in NJCAA Division II and HCC is ranked eighth.
