The DMACC volleyball team ran its record to 14-8 overall and 4-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a 3-0 win over Southeastern Community College (SECC) October 6 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
The Bears, the No. 16 team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, won by set scores of 25-13, 25-19, 25-21.
Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Anna Niehaus of Carroll led DMACC with 15 kills and CoFR Kylie Welch of Davenport and CoFR Abby Allmon of Norwalk had nine and eight respectively. Niehaus hit .379 with her 15 kills coming from 29 attacks with four hitting errors. Welch hit .333 and Allmon hit .500. As a team, DMACC finished with 44 kills from 105 attacks and 2 hitting errors for a .305 hitting percentage.
CoFR Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona led the Bears in assists with 16 and CoFR Morgan Tupper of Nevada had 13. CoFR Alissa Weinkoetz of Afton contributed three ace serves and Welch and CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque led DMACC in digs with 15 and 14 respectively. Weinkoetz had four block assists and Niehaus had three blocks, including two block assists.
The DMACC volleyball team will play Hawkeye Community College (HCC) Oct. 13. Match time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. HCC, the No. 14 team in NJCAA Division II, is 15-8 overall and 5-1 in the ICCAC. HCC defeated DMACC 3-1 in a match Aug. 29 that did not count in the conference standings.
