Freshman Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., had 14 kills, 13 digs, nine assists, two ace serves and two block assists to lead the DMACC volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) August 27 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
The Bears, ranked 15th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II preseason poll, won by set scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-22 to improve to 5-1 for the season and 1-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). ECC, playing its season opener, fell to 0-1 and 0-1.
Johnston hit .481 in the match, getting her 14 kills from 27 attacks with one hitting error.
Sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls and freshman Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter added eight kills apiece and freshman Kathryn Lukkarinen of Macomb, Ill., had five.
DMACC hit .197 in the win, getting 39 kills from 117 attacks with 16 hitting error.
Sophomore Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown led the Bears in assists with 18 and sophomore Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls added seven to go with a team-high 19 digs. Anderson and freshman Indy Johnson of Clarion also reached double figures in digs with 12 and 10 respectively.
Sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo led DMACC in blocks with four, including three block assists, and sophomore Emma Liechti of Ankeny had three block assists.
The DMACC volleyball team will face Johnson County Community College (JCCC) and Northeast Oklahoma A&M Aug. 29 at Overland Park, Kan. JCCC is ranked second in the NJCAA Division II preseason poll.
