Sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls led three players in double figures in kills with 18 as the DMACC volleyball team took a 3-2 decision from Western Iowa Technical Community College (WITCC) October 15 at Sioux City.
The Bears won by set scores of 23-25, 25-18, 24-26, 25-13, 15-10.
Freshman Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter and sophomore Emma Liechti of Ankeny added 14 and 12 kills respectively as DMACC, ranked 15th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), improved to 19-10 overall and 6-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
Wheeler hit .317, getting her 18 kills from 41 attacks with five hitting errors. Lyftogt hit .414 with her 14 kills coming from 29 attacks with two hitting errors and Liechti hit .632 with her 12 kills coming from 19 attacks with no hitting errors.
DMACC, which got nine kills from freshman Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., and six by sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo, hit .331 in the match, coming away with 61 kills from 151 attacks with 11 hitting errors.
Sophomore Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown and Johnston led the Bears in assists with 26 and 24 respectively and Lyftogt, Wrage and sophomore Riley Starkey of Rockford, Ill., had two ace serves apiece.
Sophomore Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls led four players in double figures in digs with 32. Freshman Indy Johnson of Clarion added 14 digs, Johnston had 13 and Anderson finished with 12.
Liechti topped the Bears in blocks with ten, including eight block assists, and Johnston added five block assists.
The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Iowa Central Tournament today and Oct. 18 at Fort Dodge. The Bears will face Northeast Oklahoma A&M College (NEOAM) and Metropolitan Community College (MCC) today and will play Cowley County Community College (CCCC) and Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) on Oct. 18. NEOAM is ranked 20th in NJCAA Division II, CCCC is third and KCKCC is fifth.
