DMACC volleyball team closes regular season wit 3-1 win over NIACC

 

Sophomore Emma Liechti of Ankeny had 11 kills and hit .400 to lead the DMACC volleyball team to a 3-1 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in the final match of the regular season for both teams October 29 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Set scores were 25-14, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21.

 

Liechti hit .400 with her 11 kills coming from 25 attacks with one hitting error as DMACC closed the regular season at 24-13 overall and 9-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The Bears finished third in the league standings behind Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) and Kirkwood Community College (KCC) who posted 12-0 and 11-1 conference records respectively.

 

Freshman Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter contributed 10 kills to the DMACC win and sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls and freshman Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., had nine and eight kills respectively. As a team DMACC hit .232 with 46 kills from 138 attacks with 14 hitting errors.

 

Johnston and sophomore Sydney Anderson of Marshalltown led the Bears in assists with 22 and 14 respectively and Johnston added six ace serves and eight digs.

 

Sophomore Lauren Sandvold of Cedar Falls led DMACC in digs with 22 and freshman Indy Johnson of Clarion had 18. Liechti and sophomore Danica Wrage of Waterloo finished with five block assists apiece, Wheeler had four blocks, including three block assists, and Johnston finished with three block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team, ranked 18th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), will be the No. 3 seed in the 2025 Region 11 Division II-B Volleyball Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in a semifinal match at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Second-seeded KCC and seventh-seeded Hawkeye Community College (HCC) make up the other half of the bracket and will also play at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at Cedar Rapids. The semifinal winners will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at the home of the highest seeded team still remaining in the tournament.

 

Top-seeded Iowa Central Community College (ICCC), eighth-seeded Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC), fourth-seeded Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) and fifth-seeded Southeastern Community College (SECC) make up the Region 11 Division II-A tournament bracket and will play matches on Nov. 1 and Nov. 5

 

The highest seeded tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2025 NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship Nov. 19 to 22 at Cedar Rapids and the lower seeded tournament champion will advance to the North Central District Championship against the Region 13 champion.

 

DMACC won both of its regular season matches against ECC and HCC and lost its regular season match against KCC, the No. 2 ranked team in the NJCAA Division II poll.
