The DMACC men's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak end and then started a new streak on a two-game Illinois road trip November 20 and 21.
Spoon River Community College (SRCC) avenged a 76-67 loss to the Bears in the DMACC Classic on Nov. 8 with a 61-59 upset win Nov. 20 at Canton, Ill., ending DMACC's six-game winning streak. The Bears then started a new streak with a 106-44 win over Kishwaukee College (KC) Nov. 21 at Malta, Ill.
Freshman Brent Taylor of Flossmoor, Ill., scored 12 points and sophomore Kaden Tate of Pearland, Texas, added 10 points in DMACC's loss to SRCC. The Snappers led 29-23 at halftime and got the win despite being outscored 36-32 in the second half.
DMACC, ranked fourth in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), shot 42 percent from the field, making 21 of 50 field goal attempts. The Bears were 4-of-16 from three-point range and 13-of-17 from the free throw line.
SRCC got 14 points apiece from Logan Mukeba and Jermaine Woodside. The Snappers shot 39 percent, hitting 23 of 59 field goal attempts. They were 8-of-27 from three-point range and 7-of-13 from the free throw line.
DMACC won the rebound battle, 41-28, with Taylor, Tate and freshman Hunter Gawron pulling down six rebounds apiece to lead the Bears. Taylor and freshman Landen Norris of Knoxville dished out two assists apiece and freshman Kiki Deng of Des Moines came away with two steals.
Sophomore Jayden Jones of Katy, Texas, led five players in double figures with 19 points in DMACC's win over KC. Gawron tallied 15 points, sophomore Rylan Smith of Lincoln, Neb., scored 14 and Taylor and Deng tallied 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Bears, who had a 50-14 lead at halftime, shot 54 percent from the field, making 39 of 72 field goal attempts. They were 18-of-41 from three-point range and 10-of-16 from the free throw line.
KC, led by Jaden Pride's 11 points, made 18 of 60 field goal attempts for 30 percent. The Kougars were 8-of-33 from three-point range and 7-of-12 from the free throw line.
Deng's eight rebounds and seven from Tate helped DMACC to a 54-26 advantage on the boards. Smith and Jones led the Bears in assists with four apiece and Smith topped DMACC in steals with four.
The DMACC men's basketball team will play Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) Nov. 25 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 6 p.m. KCKCC is 4-5 this season.
