DMACC men's basketball team gets 81-70 win over WITCC

 

Freshman Malcolm Bragg of Newark, N.J., came off the bench to score 14 points and lead the DMACC men's basketball team to an 81-70 win over Western Iowa Technical Community College (WITCC) December 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshman Brent Taylor of Flossmoor, Ill., and sophomore Jayden Jones of Katy, Texas, added 11 points apiece and freshman Solomon Mosley of Chicago, Ill., reached double figures with 10 points as the Bears improved to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their fifth consecutive victory.

 

DMACC, ranked seventh in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), opened up a 39-27 lead at halftime and kept WITCC at bay throughout the second half.

 

The Bears shot 53 percent in the win, hitting 29 of 55 field goal attempts. They were 7-of-19 from three-point range and 16-of-27 from the free throw line.

 

WITCC got 16 points apiece from Terance Pittman and Caleb Kawela. The Comets were 28-of-63 from the field for 44 percent. They drained six of 18 three-point attempts and were 8-of-14 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Kaden Tate of Pearland, Texas, pulled down nine rebounds as WITCC came away with a 30-28 advantage on the boards. Taylor led the Bears in assists with five and Tate came away with a team-high five steals.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face Ellsworth Community College (ECC) Dec. 13 at Iowa Falls. The Panthers lead the NJCAA Division II poll at 13-0 and are 4-0 in the ICCAC. Their wins include a 94-86 win over defending national champion Kirkwood Community College (KCC) at Cedar Rapids. KCC is ranked eighth in this week's poll.
