DMACC women's basketball team routs Southwestern CC, 82-26

 

Sophomore Breeley Clayburg of Coon Rapids recorded her second consecutive double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in leading the DMACC women's basketball team to an 82-26 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) January 24 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Whitney Jensen of Remsen added 11 points to the DMACC attack and freshman Mariam Omran of Giza, Egypt, came away with 10 as the Bears improved to 15-6 overall and 7-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their second consecutive win.

 

DMACC opened up a 28-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bears held SWCC scoreless in the second quarter and led 51-9 at halftime. Their advantage was 65-15 after three quarters.

 

DMACC shot 48 percent from the field, hitting 34 of 71 field goal attempts. The Bears were 5-of-21 from three-point range and 9-of-14 from the free throw line.

 

SWCC, led by Maddie Richter's eight points, fell to 4-17 and 0-13. The Spartans made 11 of 57 field goal attempts for 19 percent. They connected on just three of 27 attempts from beyond the arc and were 1-of-2 from the free throw line.

 

Clayburg's 10 rebounds helped DMACC to a 49-21 advantage on the boards. Freshman Jaylyn Beran of Riceville grabbed eight rebounds, Omran had six and sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls came away with five. Jensen led the Bears in assists and steals with four and five respectively.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) January 28 at Columbus, Neb. The Raiders are 7-14 overall and 3-10 in the ICCAC. DMACC came away with an 87-43 win when the two teams played Dec. 3 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
