Jensen leads DMACC women's basketball team past CCC, 83-56

 

Sophomore Whitney Jensen of Remsen scored 18 points and sophomore Breeley Clayburg of Coon Rapids recorded her third consecutive double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds as the DMACC women's basketball team took an 83-56 decision from Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) January 28 at Columbus, Neb.

 

Sophomore Aunasia Dunn of Kansas City, Mo., also reached double figures with 12 points as the Bears improved to 16-6 overall and 8-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

CCC fell to 7-15 overall and 3-11 in the ICCAC. The Raiders were led by Delaney Reeg with 17 points.

 

DMACC never trailed in sweeping the season series between the two teams. The Bears began the game with an 18-4 run and had a 27-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. They were up 45-31 at halftime and 61-42 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 36 percent in the win, making 32 of 88 field goal attempts. The Bears were 9-of-31 from three-point range and 10-of-20 from the free throw line.

 

CCC made 19 of 69 field goal attempts for 28 percent. The Raiders connected on five of 22 shots from beyond the arc and made 13 of 18 free throw attempts.

 

Clayburg's 11 rebounds helped DMACC to a 58-25 advantage on the boards. Sophomore Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls came away with 10 rebounds, freshman Mariam Omran of Giza, Egypt, added eight and Jensen finished with six.

 

Jensen led the Bears in assists with six and Dunn topped the Bears in steals with three.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will entertain Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Jan. 31 inside the DMACC gymnasium. ICCC is 17-5 overall and 10-4 in the ICCAC. The Tritons defeated the Bears 51-44 when the two teams played Jan. 17 at Fort Dodge.
